Stroke
Know the sudden signs of a stroke by remembering the acronym B.E. F.A.S.T.
At Mena Regional Health System, AR Saves Stroke Assistance Through Vital Emergency Support is available.
Upon entering the Emergency Department, a neurological exam will be given, blood drawn and a radiology technician will perform a CT scan of the head.
At that point, video conferencing with a UAMS neurologist begins. The diagnosis of the neurologist is crucial if TPA is needed, a clot busting treatment that dissolves the obstruction. TPA can only be administered within a short amount of time, so there is a very small window of opportunity.
Remember, watch for the signs and act BE FAST.
